Get in the swing at Tiverton Golf Club
HAVE you thought about taking up golf, or are you a club member looking for a fresh challenge in new surroundings?
Are you an occasional golfer who wants to play a bit more?
Do you have children who want to give it a go?
If the answer to any of these questions is 'yes', why not come along to Tiverton Golf Club's first ever Open Day on Sunday, March 21?
The free event is designed to give visitors a greater insight into golf and the benefits of being a member at Tiverton.
A host of activities will be on offer.
From 10am to 4pm you can:
- Find out more about club activities and the course from Tiverton officials and representatives from all sections of the club – men, ladies, veterans and juniors;
- Pick up literature and information about the club and membership;
- Get a few tips on your game from PGA professionals Mike Hawton and David Curl and take part in a putting competition, weather permitting;
- Enjoy refreshments (but please book if you require the Sunday Carvery in the restaurant).
Tiverton’s subscription rates are among the lowest of any golf club in Devon and it is now easier than ever to become a member, with no joining fee.
As a member you can:
- Play unlimited golf on one of the best 18-hole courses in the region, no tee booking required;
- Play a host of competitions and matches throughout the year with men, ladies, veterans or juniors, and enjoy golf on other local courses at reduced rates;
- Use Tiverton's spacious, refurbished clubhouse, with two bars, a restaurant and a large patio with views of the course and countryside;
- Enjoy food and drink at discounted prices and attend social events throughout the year;
- Visit Mike Hawton's fully-stocked professional’s shop and benefit from top-class coaching.
Tiverton is regarded as one of the best parkland courses in the region, with easy access from the M5 on the Halberton side of Tiverton.
Set in the picturesque Mid Devon countryside, with attractive mature trees lining most holes, it’s a challenging course for golfers of all abilities, measuring a maximum of 6,346 yards for men (par 71) and 5,774 yards for ladies (par 74).
Men’s competitions are mostly played at weekends in a variety of formats.
This section also caters for all members aged over 60, who are eligible to play in veterans’ competitions.
The ladies’ section is well supported with more than 130 playing members who enjoy social and competitive golf, summer and winter.
All members enjoy friendly competitive matches, home and away, throughout the season against other clubs.
Tiverton's thriving junior section currently boasts about 115 members.
Under-18s can take part in a number of competitions and matches and receive professional coaching in separate practice sessions for boys and girls on Sunday mornings. Juniors can also play in many adult events.
The club opened in 1932 on land donated by Tiverton businessman Sir John Amory.
It was created by five-time Open champion James Braid, who designed over 200 courses, including Gleneagles.
Sir John's wife, formerly Joyce Wethered, one of the greatest golfers of all time, was Tiverton's president for 24 years before her death in 1997.
Booking your free Open Day place is essential – please call 01884 252187.
