The duo posted an excellent medalford score of 11 to finish two clear of Pete Guest and John Stuckey plus Neil Forward and Ced Gibbons.
Under the medalford format, pairs deduct their stableford score on the back nine from their medal total on the front nine, giving a par of 18.

Course turned into a winter wonderland

THE falling snow didn't stop some intrepid golfers going out to play at Tiverton on Tuesday, January 5 – but not even the die-hards could make it onto the course on Wednesday, January 6.
Heavy overnight snow left the Post Hill course covered in four or five inches of the white stuff.
With the course unplayable and the scheduled ladies' competition called off, former club captain John Sargeant decided to venture out with his camera to capture the snow in all its beauty.
“The four or five inches of snow softened all sound, and definition on the course,” said John.
“The only signs of life were the fox and rabbit tracks which glistened in the pale sunlight."

Colin is new Tiverton captain

COLIN Carey took over as captain of Tiverton Golf Club on New Year's Day.
The long-time member, who plays off a handicap of 14, took over the reins from 2009 skipper Paul Steele.
A healthy crowd of club officials, members and guests braved the cold to watch Carey and Tiverton's three other new captains start their official duties with the traditional drive-in from the 10th tee.
Sue Probetts, a 32-handicapper, is the new ladies' captain, replacing Rosemary Perry.
The evergreen Gerry Franklin took over as veterans' captain from Allan Probetts while left-hander Harry Callahan succeeded Abbie Moyes as junior skipper.

Juniors Ben Hearn and Tom Hanson kicked off 2010 in style by winning the traditional cross-country competition on New Year's Day.
Receiving 10 strokes, the youngsters posted a nett 27 to beat former winners Derek Cruwys and John Stuckey by 0.25 of a shot.

Dean Farmer, Shaun Hughes and Alan Snow amassed 86 stableford points to win the three-man team event on Saturday.
The Woodgates – Matt, Simon and Kelvin – came second with 82 while twins Simon and Nick Kelland joined Simon Mosley in taking third place with 81.
Only two twos were recorded all day, with each worth 30 golf balls.
Rick Thorne, John Court and Paul Bayley were celebrating along with Roger Stevens, Richard Colman and Pete Guest.
