Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire adults to take up golf and to play more often. It is run by England Golf and supported by Sport England National Lottery Funding. Here at Tiverton Golf Club we are an official Get into Golf Partner and run various courses throughout the year.
We have designed the perfect 3 step programme to take anyone from a complete beginner to an active member of our golf club.
The first step in our programme will see participants introduced to the very basics of playing golf during five one-hour sessions. Over the five weeks we cover the main skills needed to play golf; putting, chipping, bunker play & the full swing. Then on the fifth and final week we take the group out on to the course and put it into practice.
Following on from the beginners course, the improvers course takes place entirely on the golf course. The sessions are two hours in duration, and as a group we play the course and explain the tactical side of playing the golf course including basic etiquette and rules. You must have completed a Beginners Course to sign up for the Improvers Course.
Once someone has completed steps 1 and 2, the natural progression is to play as much golf as possible whilst developing their skills. Our 2 month trial membership provides:

That's not a problem at all! We often have people attend who have never held a golf club before. All the coaching is very simple and easy to understand.
No we provide all the equipment for steps 1 and 2, although you are welcome to bring your own clubs with you if you have some. If progressing on to the trial membership you will need your own clubs. We stock low-cost beginners sets in the Pro Shop at Tiverton, or you can usually pick up some second hand clubs on eBay.
We don't have a dress code for our Get into Golf lessons. We usually recommend smart casual clothing you will feel comfortable playing golf in. Golf shoes are not required for steps 1 and 2, although again you're welcome to wear an existing pair.
When undertaking the trial membership we do require you to wear golf shoes on the course. These can be purchased from our Pro Shop. You can view our dress code by clicking here.
No it can actually provide great value for money. Someone can attend steps 1 and 2 of Get into Golf and spend just £55 for 9 hours coaching with all equipment provided! Our trial membership is also great value. Across several months you can spend as little £155 to progress through all 3 steps of Get into Golf and become an established golfer.
The beginners and improvers courses are group coaching sessions taken by one of our resident PGA golf coaches, either Head Professional Alistair Welsher or one of his Assistants Pros. The 1-on-1 lessons included in the trial membership are with the Professional of your choice.
How long does it take to learn golf and join the club permanently?
The time this takes varies depending on each individual's commitments, although it should take an average beginner 4-6 months to complete all 3 steps of Get into Golf and feel confident enough to play the golf course and apply for membership of the club.
